Starlight Spotlight!

I'm not going to apologize any more about the lateness of this wanna be
regular post, blame it on the sun ... I had to take advantage of the
good weather, you never know how long it is going to last ... these last tree
days of sunshine might be all we are getting in Ireland!

This week I came across Stirato , a poster-mag dedicated
to visual arts and distributed free around Rome,
all issues are available to download, I only browsed
two issues so far ... with 16 other to go there's lots of
talent to be discovered and enjoyed.

One of the artist featured who stole my heart is Milan based
Swedish illustrator Daniel Egneus

It's not difficult to figure out why I love his work , all
my favourite elements are there ... the sketchiness, messiness
and craftsmanship I like so much!

I have stumbled upon the mother load! Paper Fiend
is a fantastic blog for paper lovers.
If, like me, you are paper obsessed you won't be disappointed!

More abandoned buildings ... The Kingston Lounge documents
abandoned buildings in Brooklyn and beyond, again
great photography, but also great sadness at seeing all these
amazing spaces unoccupied.

Martello Towers are dotted around the Irish coastline, some
are derelict, others have been restored and turned into museums (famously The James Joyce Tower & Museum in Sandycove, Dublin), others into private residences ... I want one!

This week I'm right and ready for Starlight Spotlight,
starting with some cuteness from
Peepwool, her woolly characters are so sweet, you can't help but smile!

Feeding the obsession, I can't get enough of paper sculptures,
somehow I just seem to come across them more and more,
this week they came my way thanks to The Clothes Horse,
I particularly liked Helen Musselwhite's paper cut outs.

Shiny Squirrel recurrent post The Little Interview
give us a glimpse into the artistic process, inspiration and lives
of many talented artists, she interviewed artist
Ana Serrano at the beginning of May, her Cartonlandia
is great, you can keep looking at it and discover more
details, I would really love to see the real thing!

From paper houses to abandoned ones,
The Ruins Of Detroit it the latest project by Yves Marchant and Romaine Meffre,
buildings, factories, cinemas are all beautifully documented in
an obvious state of distress, our modern ruins.
It is sad though to see all these amazing spaces left to rot ... what a waste!

Sophie Toulouse

Paris based Sophie Toulouse is an intriguing illustrator,
drawn by hand and by computer her work has a dreamy quality.
For her personal project Nation of Angela ( in her own words a country based
on materialistic anarchy, all about style and fabulousness)
she creates large scales murals accompanied by music and text.

While mainly focusing on illustration for exhibition, she has worked
for Nike, Hugo Boss, Galleries Lafayette and Universal among others.

I just love her delicate and intricate illustrations!
